Updates on the Fight for Quality Public Education in Brevard County, FL

2026-04-28 - School Board Work Session

0:00 Thank you.

6:29 Before we get into the rule of development or the public

6:32 hearings on the rule of development,

6:33 I want to let the board know that we’re going to pull policy 6320,

6:38 procurement and contracting.

6:41 So this is policy revisions to the procurement and contracting

6:44 section.

6:46 We brought the board, the board, the board, the board, the board,

6:58 the board, the board, the

7:03 this policy revision together we weren’t trying to sneak in any

7:07 you know increases in spending

7:09 authority or anything like that and we were just trying to get

7:13 up to speed with neighboring districts

7:15 and their levels and that kind of thing but because the board

7:18 had a little bit of concern over it and

7:19 the fact that we hadn’t really done a workshop or anything

7:22 explaining why we might want to increase

7:23 those thresholds what a difference it would make or what a

7:26 difference it wouldn’t make

7:27 with our way of work and we can continue with the policy the way

7:31 it is so we’re just going to pull the

7:34 policy right off and we’re going to clean up and just bring it

7:37 back at a future date with just the

7:39 language changes that we want to make not necessarily any

7:42 spending threshold increases but I didn’t want

7:46 to just pull it off in between the last work session and today

7:49 and people say what are they doing you

7:51 know they had it on the agenda and they pulled it off so the

7:54 idea is just pull it off here at the dais

7:56 because I can give an explanation as to why we’re pulling it so

8:00 again you know it wasn’t any

8:02 nefarious move to increase thresholds or anything like that it

8:06 was like hey you know what’s everybody

8:07 else around us doing so we’re going to increase to to match them

8:11 but we don’t need to make those

8:13 changes today right now in this cycle of policy review so we’re

8:17 just going to pull that one off

8:18 so mr chair when you get to that last one we don’t need to call

8:22 for a public hearing on it because

8:23 we’re pulling it okay I wanted to do it at the dais so the

8:26 public can understand why we’re pulling it

8:30 information agenda tonight also so will you do the same thing

8:33 same thing tonight okay thank you yep

8:37 I’m just curious uh I think that’s the superintendent um I know

8:43 based on our discussions um I don’t

8:43 I don’t know if the president board concurs but I would like to

8:46 see if in a future future date we can

8:47 bring back those uh those levels to discuss if they’re if it’s

8:51 you know some of the reasoning

8:53 behind moving those thresholds up correct yeah so so what we

8:56 talked about with staff is bringing

8:57 a like a workshop discussion first to say why we would benefit

9:02 from increasing the thresholds

9:04 for example we did see that we could reduce the number of board

9:08 agenda items you know items that

9:10 come to the board for approval if we increase the threshold but

9:13 that’s not really the sole reason

9:14 why we would want to do that so before we would bring any

9:17 increases back for approval we would have

9:20 that discussion so yeah thank you for bringing that up but we

9:22 would do that before we we bring it up

9:24 for approval very good sounds good yeah mr. chair I just would

9:27 like for the record to again reflect

9:29 that I’m not gonna this is no offense to anybody here but I

9:31 think we’re in a budget tightening times

9:33 not a budget loosening time so I won’t support it when it comes

9:36 forward for the increase just want

9:38 to make sure that that’s on the record because I’ve been

9:39 attacked in the public multiple times saying

9:41 that I did not uh advocate for it so I’m just putting it on the

9:44 record once again yeah I saw some of that

9:45 lunacy online all right thank you for that clarification all

9:48 right I’m just going to say

9:50 real quick before we get running through all of these are there

9:53 any I mean we kind of went through

9:54 them right everybody gave their say and now we pretty much have

9:58 had those does anybody have

9:59 anything they wish to speak about is there any of them that like

10:01 because I was going to roll through

10:03 them and I didn’t know if you guys wanted one or two of them

10:04 which one well you have to roll from

10:06 anywhere for public comment because it’s a hearing I understand

10:09 that but the only comment I wanted to

10:10 say because I found it online um miss right there we talked

10:14 about the kids badges and ours have a child abuse

10:18 hotline but the student ones I found it um in 21 22 in that

10:21 school year the state law changed and

10:24 requires us for at least for secondary students to have it’s

10:28 this national or statewide crisis and

10:30 suicide hotlines and text lines that is what is supposed to be

10:34 on the back of the student id cards so

10:37 that’s um we talked about maybe adding something else but the

10:40 state law requires us to have those

10:41 particular lines um dealing with mental health and and suicide

10:44 risk and all those kinds of things so I did

10:46 want to just report back I found it yeah no I appreciate that

10:49 and I saw it actually on my own

10:50 student’s id my suggestion was just about the fortify florida

10:52 and that’s because it came up from that

10:54 school safety conference and kids not knowing what fortify florida

10:57 was and a lot of times it’s because

10:58 we’re using multiple lines like the speak out so the suggestion

11:01 was just maybe just put the sticker on

11:03 there with fortify florida so we cover all the bases and then

11:05 that way kids know it’s on there when

11:06 they’re flipping their id over and looking at the back of it if

11:08 you got something that you’re going to say a couple more than

11:10 i did just and i can just tell you really quickly because i see

11:14 on it’s on policy number 2261.02 and

11:19 it’s parents yep legal guardian right so they i see that they

11:22 added the word the but they added the word

11:24 the in a spot that i wasn’t specifically speaking about so it’s

11:27 on page two and it’s under language

11:29 instruction for english learners that very first paragraph and

11:32 that was the one where it’s just a

11:33 simple word to add the word the but they added it actually down

11:37 below and i think it’s more fitting

11:39 in this very first paragraph to inform the parents of an english

11:42 language learner because otherwise it

11:45 kind of sounds as though they’re informing all parents in the

11:47 class it’s not well i mean obviously if

11:49 you read it further on you can kind of tell but i just think it

11:51 cleans it up on first glance well we

11:53 can get to that when we get to it let’s let’s let’s pull it let’s

11:56 get to it i just didn’t know if everybody

11:58 has multiples then i’ll just slow down but if i’ll just run

12:02 through just pop me if you go all right

12:04 we will begin our rule development and first public hearing on

12:06 policy revisions in group two board

12:08 policy review and rule development on the following policies

12:11 policy 211 parental involvement in the

12:14 school programs is there anyone present who wishes to address

12:17 these items is there anyone present who

12:20 wishes to address these items all right on to policy 2125 school

12:24 advisory councils for school

12:26 improvement and accountability is there anyone present who

12:28 wishes to address these items

12:29 is there anyone present who wishes to address these items

12:33 hearing none policy 2261 title one services is

12:37 there anyone present who wishes to address these items is there

12:40 anyone present who wishes to address

12:42 these items policy 2261.02 parents legal guardians right to know

12:48 is there one present who wishes to address

12:51 these items did you want to say anything no that that’s just

12:54 yeah ditto it’s on page two and it’s under

12:58 if you look at page two of the uh policy it says in bold you’ll

13:02 see language instruction for english

13:04 learners and then the next paragraph down it says the district

13:07 shall no later than 30 days from the

13:09 beginning uh sorry 30 days after the beginning of each school

13:13 year inform parents of an english english learner

13:17 identified for participation so if you said uh the word the then

13:21 obviously you’re pertaining to that child

13:24 not every like you’re telling right like you’re telling the

13:26 entire class that you’re as an english

13:28 language learner in the class kind of thing so i see that they

13:31 added the word the if you go down to the

13:33 next the very bottom they did add the word the there but i think

13:37 that might yeah yeah no it makes more sense to

13:41 be i mean not that we need to take the other one out but so just

13:44 to be very clear you wanted to read

13:46 and that first paragraph under language instruction for english

13:49 learners inform the parents of an english

13:51 learner identify yes participation okay i i totally agree with

13:54 that i don’t know because that’s probably a

13:56 poll question but if it’s just like a scrivener’s because it

13:59 counted as scrivener’s error we could make

14:00 that change and not have to pull it out of cycle or is that that’s

14:04 what he said the last time yeah that is

14:06 correct we we it can stay on track okay yeah i totally agree

14:10 with putting the the okay in the

14:12 right place one word it makes a difference right i feel

14:15 confident we’ve got it in the right place

14:17 good all right moving on policy oh wait is there anyone present

14:21 who wishes to address these items

15:30 families will feel better about that yep yep

17:18 there anyone present who wishes to address these items is there

17:21 anyone present who wishes to address these items

17:24 all right and then that brings the procurement one that we’re

17:27 pulling that doesn’t require us to even have

17:31 a vote on it so we’re good our first topic will be the board

17:35 discussion of fsba

17:37 fsba’s advocacy committee representative and alternative for the

17:39 upcoming term

17:40 um miss miss miss campbell has served diligently on that i

17:45 wanted to take a second

17:46 but your work on there has been amazing right and you’ve done a

17:52 great job and i wanted to take a

17:54 second and say thank you for all your hard work there you’ve

17:56 done great i think it comes down

17:58 to uh miss megan is not a participant so it comes between gene

18:03 me and john i move for the chair to

18:06 be the representative okay okay

18:11 all right so um which one of you guys wants to be you both want

18:18 to be alternates that way i can okay

18:20 that’s good um sounds good on that they need you need to pick

18:24 one because they decide yeah but they

18:26 can both have it they can both be alternates so i’m like i’m the

18:28 representative they’re the alternates

18:30 and we’ll change because i think it’s something that they could

18:33 go to and have fun all right next

18:34 topic will be a discussion on logo logo trademarks guys i i

18:37 wanted to let you know i added some of these

18:40 on here just because we need to have some discussions prior to

18:43 the the summer coming out because some of

18:46 these things are going to start stacking up right the other

18:49 reason i put it on here is we’re getting

18:51 ready to issue the cease and desist orders to all of the groups

18:54 that we’re doing this and just wanted

18:58 to kind of talk about this topic so right now we’re in the

19:01 process of getting ready to issue the cease and

19:04 desist that’s i’m going to go to walmart target and those areas

19:07 of publics and i’m going to say hey guys

19:10 here’s what this is i want to let you know about this and my

19:14 thought was that we would come back with

19:17 a policy by august 1st that gives direction as to who it is that’s

19:21 going to be approving how the

19:22 vendor process goes that would be a recommendation from the

19:25 school district but i kind of wanted you

19:27 guys to start thinking in this direction of what is that next

19:30 step in regards to how do we have

19:33 the local school and how do they approve a vendor to use the

19:36 logo don’t have to talk about it now just

19:39 one of those things go ahead you can weigh in yeah that’s what

19:41 this is about i just kind of wanted to

19:42 start no i’m actually i’m glad that we’re having this

19:45 conversation one of the things i think a lot

19:47 of parents look for when they’re they register their kid for

19:50 school is how do we get swag from the team

19:52 you know whatever sport they’re playing i would love us to be at

19:55 a place where we looked at our

19:56 schools having some some type of store there where parents

20:00 and families could go to the school go to the front office and

20:02 pick up sweatshirts or t-shirts

20:03 i think that would be a great thing to have you know some more

20:06 school team spirit around town

20:07 so far what i’m seeing in the north end so i’ve noticed like

20:11 publics has pulled any of the stuff

20:14 out and so now they’re they’re moving towards eastern florida

20:16 they have eastern florida stuff

20:17 in there and not ours which part of me is like oh it would have

20:19 been great if we could have gotten

20:20 this done and they can carry all of it or you know if we as a

20:23 district decide we’ll go the other

20:25 route and move it into the school sites i think that’s a good

20:28 opportunity i think it could

20:29 potentially be something that could even generate revenue for

20:31 each of the school sites so i would

20:33 love to see that i don’t know if that’s something that’s even

20:35 possible to get off the ground but it

20:36 would be very good i mean think about when when coco won the

20:38 state championship for football i was at

20:40 the coco walmart trying to find a coco tigers shirt like you

20:42 know looking for these things and you’re

20:44 like it would be great if i could just go to coco and go in the

20:46 front lobby and purchase a shirt right

20:47 there from them uh to support that program so part of the part

20:51 of the conversation just in regards to

20:53 what you said um there’s school online ones that we can say this

20:58 vendor is allowed to for titusville do

21:02 the online and they can also produce the ones inside of the um

21:06 you know like a school store um those are

21:09 all they already like i was using viera as an example because

21:12 they have relationships with people who

21:14 already print them they receive money back i think that there’s

21:17 about three or four large vendors inside the

21:20 community that i think that we could go to with conversations

21:23 and say we’re going to approve you

21:25 that if any school goes to your company and says they would like

21:29 to partner with you you have the

21:31 right to do so you just need their agreement to go so that would

21:34 give the school some autonomy to

21:36 utilize some of the approved vendors that might be there because

21:38 those contracts would be negotiated with

21:40 district communications along with us so that that school would

21:43 be able to get the revenue that they

21:45 deserve and they could view all of them um there’s just a lot of

21:48 opportunities out there

21:49 i do know that publix walmart and i have not talked to target

21:53 but they have in a 30 000 foot view

21:56 agreed that they would like to come in and do like a large

21:59 donation that would then be split between

22:00 the schools so that they could have um the ability to print in

22:03 all of their programs so there’s all

22:05 kinds of ways to do this i just wanted to kind of get you guys

22:07 thinking about it that’s all miss

22:09 campbell my thoughts are to leave it wide open so that schools

22:12 have as much opportunity you know once we

22:14 get the logo the trademark thing taken care of because every

22:17 school some schools are already

22:19 doing something like this like an online store but i yeah would

22:22 it be great for people just to walk off

22:24 the street but at the same time i’m always i always try to be

22:28 cognizant of the busyness of the front

22:30 office and the timing and do we really want this joe schmo off

22:33 the street walking in with our all our

22:35 security things and stuff going on so i just um i would love

22:39 schools to just for there not to be a

22:41 commandment from on high this is what you shall do but like here

22:44 let’s open up the door so that if

22:46 your school this works well great if it doesn’t work well you

22:49 know what opportunities do you have i know

22:51 at mel high for example which is where i’ve had kids last

22:53 several years they send out a link in the

22:56 newsletter here’s where you can get all the swag you want on any

23:00 type of item you want you want coffee

23:02 cup mugs hoodies athletic wear whatever it is and they go

23:05 through a vendor and that’s fundraisers usually

23:08 for the sports teams i know the band has their own association

23:11 that’s the other thing about when we

23:13 start doing fundraisers for the schools they they have to follow

23:16 our fundraiser policy right but these the

23:19 booster clubs the band organizations the all those things they

23:23 have a different set of roles and it’s

23:25 usually easier for them it’s kind of like with our schools

23:27 foundation for us right they’re the

23:29 fundraising arm so i just i don’t want to tie people’s hands i

23:32 want to give them hopefully what

23:34 we’ll be doing is opening doors open wider rather than restricting

23:40 them or trying to shove them a

23:43 certain way so whatever we do that’s that’s what i would like to

23:46 see is is keeping it as open as possible so

23:48 they can figure out what’s the best solution for their school

23:51 yeah no i i think that’s a hundred

23:52 percent mr thomas you had something to say nothing really to add

23:55 other than i mean i love the idea of

23:56 making sure that all of our logos are consistent but i certainly

24:00 want to be mindful not to restrict

24:02 like miss campbell said you know close that that doorway for

24:05 people to be able to get materials

24:07 we just don’t want a athletic director to be able to sign off

24:10 the logos on a non-renewing contract is

24:13 what we’re basically trying to get under control so thank you i

24:16 was going to also ask you guys um the

24:19 attorney with mr gibbs and i said would the other board members

24:23 want to be the people that go out and

24:26 talk to the businesses that are printing them because we have

24:29 the family dollar the cvs’s the walmart’s and

24:31 all those guys so i didn’t know because i’m going to go like i’m

24:35 going to go talk to him and stuff

24:36 like that and i didn’t know he said if you want to power teams i

24:41 think that’s more than but there are

24:45 some people that you may want to say hey like you know go in and

24:49 grab the local pto president or whoever

24:51 it is and say you want to come with me and stuff like that so if

24:54 you want to do that i’ll send the

24:55 cease and desist out to the entire board you guys can go in and

24:58 you know what i mean bring it in and do an

25:00 official bring a cease and desist into businesses hold on wait

25:03 hold on back up that is not what i

25:05 was gathering from this conversation so back up real fast can we

25:07 change it to request to cooperate

25:09 yeah no i do not want to hand deliver cease and desist to

25:12 multiple businesses are you by the way you

25:14 want a partner yeah yeah and we would love for you that’s no but

25:17 there are some people that need to

25:18 know that those prints that they’re doing are illegal and that

25:21 there are logos i’ll do all of them for

25:25 you guys all right so we had discussion about it if you guys can

25:28 kind of beat around with your

25:30 principals and then come back maybe at the next board meeting we

25:32 can talk about at the workshop

25:34 the next one is is that next year this is sports broadcasting

25:38 next year there’s been some our sports

25:41 are exploding and we’re starting to see our media partners are

25:45 starting to really get involved right

25:47 and we’ve been approached by a couple of them to do not only

25:50 middle school but elementary school sports and

25:52 all these things right fox news and everybody have been wanting

25:56 to do it and one of the limitations is

25:58 currently the fhsaa put some cameras in years ago into some of

26:02 our sporting venues and they say that

26:04 they’re the only ones to be able to broadcast the actual event

26:08 because they put them in it was something

26:11 that i argued against years ago i would like to look at that to

26:15 just say is there a way that if brevard

26:19 if the space coast daily and all the rest of them want to

26:22 publish what process we do it and it’s not

26:23 so much for the regular season as much as once we get into the

26:27 the playoffs what happens is is like

26:30 space coast daily or brevard news network or whoever it is goes

26:35 and applies to them says hey guys we

26:38 would like to broadcast this they pay the fee which is 500 to be

26:41 able to do it but fhsaa drags their feet

26:44 and doesn’t give them the approval wow so they don’t get the

26:47 actual opportunity there’s a lot of like

26:49 rubs that happen in there so i just wanted to go back and grab

26:52 it i’m going to do it anyway and i’ll

26:54 just bring it to the next meeting but i wanted to kind of give

26:57 you guys the the idea that i was going

26:58 behind it’s not it’s not to take away the cameras that the fhsaa’s

27:03 put in because there is dr indell

27:05 talked very positively about how he would take the camera that

27:08 they had inside the gym and place it on a tv so

27:11 when people went to go to the concession stand they could see it

27:14 there’s all more power to it but

27:15 there’s going to be i’ve been approached that there’s some some

27:18 people that want to put together

27:19 like an espn sports zone before the games in some places they

27:22 want to have interviews they want to do

27:24 all that stuff right i just want to make sure that it’s not

27:26 going to affect that that’s all and i’ll bring

27:29 it back and i just want to kind of let you guys know it’s coming

27:31 no i think it’s a great idea is there

27:33 anything do we have anything contractually in agreement with fhsaa

27:37 that makes it to where we’re not allowed to

27:39 have another it is it is so i believe the fhsa restriction is

27:43 you can’t broadcast the game live

27:46 without their consent or permission okay and what mr susan is

27:50 talking about is more like sideline

27:52 reporting right which would not be an issue or even happens all

27:55 the time already what about athletic

27:57 like doing the interviews like is that like a news totally fine

28:00 to do okay game stuff yeah it’s they

28:02 don’t want necessarily another vendor so to speak to have a

28:05 camera broadcasting the game and offering a

28:08 subscription service and all that kind of thing i want to take a

28:12 look at it live full game broadcast

28:14 that’s don’t we have i mean it’s been so many years i can’t even

28:16 remember don’t didn’t we get go into

28:18 a contract with a company that installed cameras it’s separate

28:22 from fhsaa correct and and they put we

28:25 was part of that we put wi-fi out in the stadiums and all that

28:27 kind of stuff i can’t remember the name of the

28:29 company or the contract but i just remember that it was for the

28:32 national fhs yeah yeah mrs campbell is

28:33 correct i believe it was with nfhs the national federation of

28:36 high schools and i think um that’s

28:39 not who the cameras are from but you know that’s who negotiated

28:42 that agreement and so there’s a camera

28:45 at every every football stadium press box and then in every gymnasium

28:49 that just you know broadcasts the

28:51 games live from one static camera point right and um you can

28:55 subscribe to that and that kind

28:57 of thing that was an agreement do we still have that contract i

28:59 believe so yeah i can check with mr

29:01 robinson so i wanted to look at that because there’s also some

29:03 places where the cameras never worked

29:05 but they’re still locking down this this policy and there might

29:09 be i’ll be completely transparent

29:11 there might be a big game that somebody might want to say i want

29:14 to put cameras all over this thing

29:15 and do like a real video like a real thing so i’ll just take a

29:18 look at it and bring it back we’ll talk

29:19 yeah that’s all um and then the ai discussion is um we need to

29:25 give direction uh so for full

29:28 transparency i talked to russell cheatham russell cheatham said

29:31 that on the may fourth the may 12th

29:33 board meeting he’s bringing forward a policy and stuff like that

29:36 my goal here was not to try to say

29:39 hey guys let’s go ahead and lock down and do everything right

29:41 now it was hey guys on may

29:43 12th we’re gonna have an ai policy conversation and one of the

29:46 things we’re doing is is we’ve received

29:48 from moms for liberty a pretty good background um there’s a neola

29:51 template coming and stuff like

29:53 that and i just wanted that in the event that you guys uh really

29:56 wanted to speak to it it’s coming

29:58 and just get ready for it that’s it i just want to speak to this

30:01 and i think i’ve said this again but

30:03 since we’re going to keep bringing it up i’m going to say this

30:06 again i i what i was what i heard was uh that

30:08 moms for liberty was it was a proclamation i will tell you i’m

30:12 not really interested in proclamation

30:14 i’m actually not even interested in the policy i’m gonna say it

30:17 again i’m interested in a framework

30:18 a plan how are we going to train teachers on what is okay and

30:22 what is not okay to use in the classroom

30:25 and have professional development ready to go how are we going

30:28 to train those teachers to train

30:30 students on the appropriate and inappropriate use so i because

30:35 again no offense to any particular

30:38 organization but i want to see the framework and the plan

30:40 because everything else to me is just words

30:42 and we’re already behind i’ve seen a few news of a few school

30:45 districts doing things here and there

30:47 but i the the plan is what’s the most important and i know mr

30:51 cheatham’s working on that so that

30:53 that that that heat that i might you might be feeling it’s not

30:56 towards him but i just like i

30:58 i we’ve been talking about at least since we got back from the

31:01 conference in december

31:03 and there are school districts around the state doing different

31:07 things and i’m ready for us to be

31:09 a part of that because right now it’s a little bit of the wild

31:12 west across the state because people

31:15 don’t know what they can and cannot use and there are totally

31:17 appropriate ways to use this there are

31:18 tools that will save our teachers time and our staff time and

31:23 and you know utility apps and things like

31:27 that but but we’ve got to have a they need to know from the

31:31 district what’s okay what am i going to lose

31:33 my job over or what what is something that the district is

31:37 saying no we want you guys to use this so

31:39 your productivity goes up um you know so i’m that’s what i’m

31:43 looking for and a proclamation is not

31:45 going to cut it for me well i think i think the proclamation was

31:48 part of

31:49 hey here are some items that we would like to see put into it

31:52 these are some of the things that

31:53 we’d like to put as ideas and i think i welcome those

31:56 conversations i think um also we may have

32:00 to put together a policy because there’s so many parts to it so

32:03 let’s see how it goes i hear what

32:05 you’re saying i’m really excited to move forward with it you’re

32:07 right across the state we’ve got it

32:09 i just want i wanted everybody to be on alert that this is a big

32:12 topic and we should be ready for a

32:13 conversation in a couple of weeks it’s the special session that

32:16 they just called though isn’t ai a part of

32:18 that conversation i was trying to look up to see i thought there

32:20 was a lot of talk with the

32:21 legislation on them addressing ai specifically with children and

32:24 so i think we might be wise to

32:26 just kind of slow down a little bit to see what that looks like

32:28 because there might be something

32:29 coming out of tallahassee that’s going to impact how we write a

32:32 policy that’s great i mean just a

32:33 thought that’s smart i know that’s all right well miss campbell

32:39 while miss campbell looks that up i

32:42 want to bring up another topic um we are now almost 90 percent

32:46 tested for the presidential youth physical

32:49 fitness things there’s a host of schools that are in their final

32:52 moments of doing the testing i would

32:55 love to get those lists to you guys so you could go out and

32:58 promote it um the idea is is that we will be

33:00 from what i’m gathering the only school district in the entire

33:04 state to move forward with a plan to

33:06 try to tie this to the presidential youth physical fitness um i’m

33:10 really excited about it because when

33:11 we called the company that actually prints the certificates and

33:15 has the computer programs they

33:16 were like having to dust off their stuff from way back when when

33:19 we got our lease certificates so i’m

33:21 really excited so i would like to send you guys some of the

33:24 schools that are still in your area

33:25 and understand that elementary middle and high school are

33:30 testing but in high school what’s really cool

33:32 is the rotc’s are testing so it’s pretty cool and the majority

33:35 of them have already gotten it done but

33:37 there are some still lingering ones and we’re going to do some

33:39 pr stuff on it so i’m really excited so

33:41 yeah that’s all i got um and then board members do you guys have

33:44 anything that you want to discuss i just

33:45 want to give a shout out because space coast is the only t the

33:48 only team from brevard county right now

33:50 that’s headed to um the state i’m just going to read this real

33:53 fast because they’re for their flag

33:55 football and i’ll be honest when flag football even started i

33:57 thought this is not going to be a thing

33:58 but it is a thing it is a huge thing for these girls uh so

34:01 extremely proud of them but they are headed

34:04 to play let’s see real fast i’m trying to find it and it’s

34:07 really deep into this conversation um

34:09 all right i’m not sure which they’re they they ended up placing

34:13 in there and making to the finals

34:15 honestly by the schedule which was pretty amazing but um their

34:19 final season sorry i

34:20 have to read a whole bunch of stuff to get to the final season

34:22 so they’re playing a team that’s

34:24 ranked i guess their record was 14 and one and sorry i can’t

34:27 find it right this minute but they

34:29 had a really good season and anyway so the only one from brevard

34:31 county for the flag football that

34:33 is advancing so cheering those girls on from the sideline here

34:36 and hoping that they bring back a

34:38 state champion flag football would that be amazing that would be

34:41 amazing wouldn’t it our i always said

34:43 this and i meant it that the sisters of every one of my football

34:47 players were much stronger and better

34:49 at the sports than they ever were so once we tapped into our

34:52 female sports like wrestling we have more

34:55 female wrestlers in brevard county than anywhere else in the

34:58 state and they win titles all the time

35:00 there is no doubt that when we tap all of the female sports that

35:03 we’re going to see it come out and

35:04 they’re so excited to play it because they get away from like

35:07 the soccer they play to flag football basketball

35:09 plays flag football it’s so cool that was something really

35:11 surprising to me because some of these girls

35:13 again being in that community and seeing these kids through

35:15 different sports whether it’s softball

35:16 volleyball whatnot they were they were athletes in multiple

35:19 different sports but they love flag football

35:21 so much that they’re like nope we’re going to do flag football

35:23 solely i’m like oh my goodness you’ve been

35:24 a softball player for the last eight years what do you mean they’re

35:27 nope they want to do flag football so

35:29 it’s been really cool to watch them and they are definitely a

35:31 force to be reckoned with so i’m hoping they bring

35:33 back that state title for us that would be pretty amazing what

35:35 are they playing they are playing today

35:37 actually so that’s uh it’s in i think pointon beach or something

35:41 it’s somewhere it’s not local um which

35:43 i was like man i would love to be there cheering you guys on but

35:46 i’m sure i’ll get updates and so if

35:47 i get any from parents as this is going on you may i may ask to

35:50 interrupt you mr chair and give you a

35:52 score update just in the game call them and text them um anybody

35:56 else have anything yeah just really quick

35:58 and i just forward this email to you um the special session that

36:02 starts today it’s just this week so we

36:04 actually should know by the end of this week what bill the it’s

36:08 it’s going to be filed it’s supposed

36:09 to be identical to senate bill 482 which the senate passed in a

36:12 regular session i think they have to

36:14 file again because it’s a special session but it’s supposed to

36:17 be the identical um bill that they’d already

36:19 passed so that’s senate bill 482 and i it’s in there’s a hot

36:22 link in the email that i just sent you

36:24 so we should know actually by the end of this week what the

36:27 state’s putting forward

36:29 uh when it comes to ai it does it there are going to be some

36:32 child safety protection things and public

36:34 records exemptions things like that um that that will

36:37 potentially affect us but um again we’ll know

36:40 by the end of this week so that should help um russell and his

36:43 team when we bring it back we should

36:46 at least have some answers the governor may not have signed it

36:48 by then but you know we’ll know it’s

36:50 coming he’s not going to not sign a special session he called um

36:53 anybody else got anything saving it

36:56 for them all good all right um wanted to give you guys another

36:59 quick update um elementary school sports

37:01 just so you guys know we hosted the elementary school golf

37:05 championship 40 participants more like

37:09 excited i thought that i was at the masters these kids were like

37:12 battling it out and they had a leader

37:14 board that was going on the whole time parents were their caddies

37:18 it was the coolest thing i’ve ever

37:20 seen so i’m going to ask them to come back to a board meeting um

37:24 in in honor of mr trent who likes to

37:26 play golf but i um but i did want to tell you that that was

37:30 incredible we also hosted a elementary school

37:33 track tournament melbourne the city of melbourne does it every

37:37 year they invited all kinds of elementary

37:40 school sports but they agreed that next year they would host the

37:44 championship for all elementary

37:46 school sports so like our elementary schools and they’re really

37:49 excited to um to do that next year

37:51 so we we basically took like wrestling track a couple other

37:55 little things and got like a little

37:57 championship together so that we could work through the formats

37:59 and stuff like that and now kevin

38:02 robinson myself gary miracle and a bunch of other guys are going

38:04 to put together elementary school

38:06 sports webpage where it has all the contact information so that

38:09 each pto can go and say hey we’d like to do

38:11 this or notify their kids and everything else um i also wanted

38:15 to tell you guys that the uh brevard

38:18 county red eyes which is the rugby team which is um they won the

38:22 state title this year and um they

38:25 went out and they almost won the national title and we have

38:28 always talked about bringing rugby um as

38:31 a sport to brevard so risk management risk management we’ve

38:35 always talked about it right now so i was

38:37 gonna i’m gonna bring that back as a um high school sport and uh

38:42 as a youth sport so i would like to

38:44 bring that back at a further date um and then mr cheetham i

38:47 wanted to say thank you for your

38:49 involvement in the ai platform everybody keeps saying that um

38:52 all these other school districts are doing

38:55 things i know that you’ll do it right um because we have the

38:58 best it guy um more than anybody else so

39:00 i’m looking forward to that ai platform resolution that you

39:04 bring or policy and procedures and everything

39:06 else so anybody else have anything dr rindell all right we’re

39:12 good that’s the end of the meeting

39:21 you
