4:00:49 it was misinterpreted um but if we just we don’t have a neola

4:00:54 guideline to go with this but we need to

4:00:57 um because it was it was taken and just like i talk around us to

4:01:02 be very specific when we were talking

4:01:04 about distributing the um the constitutions right the pocket

4:01:08 constitutions and i’m just going to ignore

4:01:11 the part that people like drastically blew that up and said that

4:01:13 the declaration of independence that

4:01:15 constitution and the actual oath that people say when they

4:01:18 become citizens of our country

4:01:20 are you know propaganda um it’s it’s um supplemental

4:01:24 instructional materials and it went through the

4:01:27 process that was supposed to go through which was last year and

4:01:29 this year it went through the assistant

4:01:31 superintendent who had the content specialist both years take a

4:01:34 look at it same thing when i’ve had

4:01:36 groups approached me and say hey we want to give dictionaries to

4:01:39 all the third graders at whatever

4:01:40 same thing brought it to at the time jane klein hey can you have

4:01:45 she had her content specialist look

4:01:47 through the dictionary make sure it’s just a rare old dictionary

4:01:50 and got the proper approval this right

4:01:52 here this policy is to me very specific to um like

4:01:59 advertisements and other things this is not

4:02:04 we have a thing so if someone wants to pass out information

4:02:08 about an event coming up they have to

4:02:10 go through mr brune’s office correct and we it has a disclaimer

4:02:14 that says this is not doesn’t represent the

4:02:17 views of revard public schools um but they can send it out um

4:02:22 you know or put it into folders or whatever

4:02:25 so you know there’s not a neola template on this this is a revard

4:02:30 specific policy but it’s fine i’m

4:02:33 fine with it the way that it is um but if staff wants to take if

4:02:36 we need to make that more clear

4:02:37 so we don’t run into the problem again the only note the note i

4:02:42 had on when i reviewed it was

4:02:43 to discuss with the board if you wanted to add language about

4:02:47 donations and that was because of

4:02:48 the constitutions we were technically a donation and not help me

4:02:53 donations and not

4:02:54 it was a donation of a primary source in lieu of a supplemental

4:02:58 material primary source thank you

4:03:00 and so i don’t know if that’s the i don’t need to react to that

4:03:02 but if it’s a you know we do get

4:03:04 donations that don’t necessarily fit into other categories at

4:03:07 our schools um and then the other

4:03:09 part of that is do you want to discuss any type of attached

4:03:11 documentation that would be required or

4:03:13 be prohibited um that would go along with donations i have no

4:03:18 opinion either way i just wanted to bring

4:03:20 it up for the suspension do you have an example of what you

4:03:22 would mean um ability to you know put

4:03:26 their logo on that uh the donation or a qr code oh you mean like

4:03:31 if they’re asking where yeah are they

4:03:34 gonna take you one step removed and then they’re gonna be able

4:03:37 to talk to the student about what they

4:03:39 want um if that’s something the board has an appetite for um

4:03:43 otherwise it’s fine the way it is

4:03:45 i i’m fine with it the way that it is um i mean you know i think

4:03:52 we need to deal with that on a

4:03:53 case-by-case basis where we’re actually looking at the actual

4:03:55 item which in this case we did

4:03:57 um i think it’s the legalese and then you start going i’m fine

4:04:03 to be honest with you because the thing is because people had

4:04:06 problems with websites being on things

4:04:09 but on our advertising we sell for our planners and i think this

4:04:14 is the point dr rindell brought up to

4:04:16 me on our planners on whatever we businesses are putting their

4:04:20 websites does it mean we’re endorsing

4:04:24 that that dentist or daycare or air conditioning repair people

4:04:31 you know we have we have those

4:04:33 things all over things that we’re handing to our kids um there

4:04:37 are signs all over the field right from

4:04:40 sponsors um i think i think this is fine way it is unless you

4:04:45 know if there’s clarification if in

4:04:48 that process kind of highlighted this if there was something

4:04:51 this my suggestion would be if there was

4:04:53 something that we needed in policy to make that more crystal

4:04:56 clear for staff that would be helpful

4:05:06 wasn’t the public kind of some of the public got upset and took

4:05:54 club those are sponsored by a local

4:05:57 organization or even like wouldn’t like a future farmers or the

4:06:04 like national or state organizations as opposed to a school

4:06:15 like i said interact rotary and they all have to be student-led

4:16:36 i’m being honest um and i had given a heads up to uh dr rindell

4:16:40 that i was going to say what i’m

4:16:42 going to say i mean i didn’t give him the words that i’m going

4:16:44 to say but he knew i was going to bring

4:16:45 this up and i am purposely bringing it up now be out of respect

4:16:49 of the people who are being appointed

4:16:51 tonight also because it’s less people paying attention if i’m

4:16:55 being honest

4:16:56 um i feel an obligation to say this i feel an obligation to put

4:17:00 it out there publicly as a

4:17:02 statement um again because i don’t want to have to explain it

4:17:05 later tonight i just don’t think it’s

4:17:07 fair to everybody who’s in the room and i am literally going to

4:17:11 read what i wrote because i don’t want my

4:17:13 words being uh misinterpreted or twisted around because i can

4:17:18 literally go back and look at them

4:17:20 so tonight we have an administrative appointment that i am very

4:17:25 concerned with and i asked to have

4:17:29 this conversation like i said just so that we’re not bringing

4:17:31 this up one of the other appointments

4:17:32 tonight we have an employee who had two significant infractions

4:17:37 in four months the first which

4:17:40 i think was a consequence of extreme grace taking away pto hours

4:17:46 after fraudulently reporting tarn cards

4:17:49 i call that a significant amount of grace retaining their

4:17:52 position and their pay

4:17:53 second a prejudiced comment about a population of students that

4:17:57 are significant at their school

4:17:59 this led our superintendent to want to move for termination

4:18:05 eventually being moved to offer

4:18:07 resignation again an offer of grace which was accepted by that

4:18:12 employee and it was posted onto our october

4:18:15 10th agenda this agreement was then removed from the agenda

4:18:18 because a board member had encouraged the

4:18:21 superintendent to do so invoking that this individual was

4:18:24 related to a current school board candidate

4:18:26 this candidate who showed up at the board meeting that day and

4:18:30 came up and shook all of our hands on the

4:18:32 dais dr rendell told me that he had agreed to remove the item to

4:18:37 ensure that the appropriate protocol was

4:18:39 followed for the disciplinary action and i want to be clear it

4:18:43 was my genuine impression that dr rendell

4:18:46 was uncomfortable with what transpired i’m not blaming him for

4:18:49 the steps that were taken

4:18:51 he told me he originally wanted to move for termination because

4:18:55 those comments are unacceptable here at bps

4:18:58 his own words to me in conversation pointed out the absurdity

4:19:01 such as how can i justify moving this

4:19:04 individual with comments like that do we put them in a school

4:19:07 with a smaller hispanic population again

4:19:10 highlighting how absurd that would be he told me he wanted

4:19:13 resignation and again offered to allow them

4:19:17 to resign to offer grace and before someone attempts to refute

4:19:22 my claims i’m going to be very specific when this

4:19:24 happened it was on october 10th before the executive session in

4:19:28 dr renzel’s office he informed all of

4:19:31 you after that executive session that him and i had already

4:19:33 spoken that day and he needed to speak with

4:19:35 all of you individually next i’m informed that the decision was

4:19:39 revised to a six-day suspension without

4:19:41 pay and it was posted on our october 24th agenda as well as the

4:19:45 offer to continue to to be a part of bps

4:19:51 and teach at gardendale with the opportunity to reapply for an

4:19:54 administrative position in the future

4:19:55 an offer i wasn’t necessarily comfortable with but i had

4:19:59 expressed that i recognized that the

4:20:01 consequences were significant so i didn’t push further the offer

4:20:04 that i assumed meant the ability

4:20:07 to reapply would be for the next school year for a position of

4:20:10 leadership not a week or two after their

4:20:11 disciplinary consequence i shouldn’t have to state this but

4:20:15 someone with two significant disciplinary

4:20:18 infractions in four months now leading a school in the area of

4:20:21 discipline is not right if someone

4:20:24 doesn’t regulate their own actions and accept the consequences

4:20:27 of those actions we have no business

4:20:29 policing the rules on the students let alone with the bias from

4:20:31 the prejudice statement that was made in

4:20:33 their second offense we serve every student with excellence by

4:20:36 having excellence at the top

4:20:38 and the excellence at the top is the staff who reported the infractions

4:20:42 in the first place

4:20:43 those are the people we should be praising and supporting not

4:20:46 making them stand beside someone

4:20:48 tonight accepting this position of leadership it’s diminishing

4:21:15 this individual was on our agenda now three meanings in a row

4:21:21 resignation then a disciplinary action and now an appointment to

4:21:24 a leadership position when in the

4:21:26 history of bps has that ever happened this would have never

4:21:30 happened if it wasn’t for nepotism dr rindell

4:21:33 would have never been encouraged to remove the resignation by a

4:21:37 sitting board member this wouldn’t have happened

4:21:40 if any employee not related to a school board candidate was on

4:21:44 that agenda i am tired of standing up and

4:21:48 saying the hard things by myself if this individual was a friend

4:21:51 or family member of mine

4:21:53 you all would be up in arms right now i didn’t seek out this

4:21:58 information this was brought to me by our

4:22:01 superintendent the person who’s supposed to have the authority

4:22:04 to make the decisions that he made

4:22:05 i wouldn’t have any clue that this person was related to

4:22:09 somebody or that a board member had

4:22:11 involved themselves if i wasn’t told by the superintendent

4:22:14 himself so now i have a responsibility to speak about

4:22:17 it these infractions wouldn’t be tolerated in any other

4:22:20 workplace let alone rewarded

4:22:23 this is my district it’s the community i live in and it is my

4:22:26 child’s future school wrong is wrong if no one’s watching

4:22:30 i want to be clear the personnel file is public the staff at the

4:22:38 school knows

4:22:39 the families know people already are talking we are responsible

4:22:45 for our vote tonight we are responsible for

4:22:48 the decisions we make tonight i wanted an opportunity to put

4:22:52 this on record what transpired my viewpoints

4:22:54 and to make it clear that everyone up here was either already

4:22:58 aware or now you are aware

4:23:00 and again i’m not i’m not doing this to have a debate about it i

4:23:04 intentionally felt the need after

4:23:07 finding out about it i couldn’t keep it i couldn’t keep it to

4:23:10 myself and for me to pull someone tonight and

4:23:12 not explain why i felt would be disingenuous to the public so

4:23:17 out of respect i did it in this

4:23:19 workshop so it would have less attention on it and so that it’s

4:23:21 not in front of all of the other

4:23:23 people tonight i will not be speaking about this tonight but i

4:23:26 will be asking to move it individually so

4:23:29 that my my vote can be reflective of it but i will not be making

4:23:32 any comments on it tonight
